Delicious biscuity heirloom flavor to complement any ale!  Deeper and more complex than most pale malts.  A notorious English Pale Ale Malt, it is the best base for any British Style – Browns, Bitters, and even Barleywines.  Maris hotter is a standard when making UK styles, and has become a go-to base malt for many American style makes as well.  This legendary heritage barley variety is the base malt for traditional English Ales, Beers, and Bitters.  Tasty in American styles as well. 

LOCAL STOCK: To preserve freshness we usually have one 55lb sack of Maris Otter in stock in stock and available for local pickup.  Typically this will be Crisp No. 19 Floor-Malted Maris Otter® (formerly Gleneagles Maris Otter®).  If you want your Maris Otter from a certain maltster we will special order if for you. 



WE USUALLY HAVE 1 SACK OF CRISP GLENEAGLES AVAILABLE IN STORE.   If we are sold out, the 55lb Maris is eligible for back order and we will direct ship from the closest BSG warehouse.   We’ll have it there in 3-5 days depending on your local conditions.  If you don’t want the Crisp #19 you can Special Order  by giving us a call 618-203-8025.

The Finest malt from the British Isles, Maris Otter thrives in the maritime climate of the British Isles.  Maris is an English 2-row varietal barley introduced in 1966 that was developed specifically to produce high quality malt for the production of ale.  It has since been largely been replaced by industrial varieties with more yield and more reliable production.  Maris Otter has pretty much become an “heirloom” variety malt prized by many craft brewers in the UK and the United States. Some of the production is still floor malted, a process that intensifies this barley’s natural round, biscuity flavors.

Its low nitrogen content, uniformly plump kernels, and robust husk has made it a favorite among English brewers for its reliable and forgiving brewhouse performance.  It is very forgiving of novice homebrewers when mashed.  The unique heirloom Maris Otter flavor adds something to the beer which may be absent in modern barley varieties grown for yield and ease of agricultural production.

This fine base malt will easily convert with a single infusion mash.  Produces an orange tinged golden wort with a unique rich, slightly nutty flavor.  An excellent malt for any English style beer.
