Description
Simcoe® YCR-14 CV is a modern hop from the USA and is one of the TOP TEN varieties used in the American Craft Beer Movement. It is grown in the United States and is known for DUAL PURPOSE brewing versatility and unique aroma characteristics. It continues to rise in popularity and is sometimes hard to find in homebrew shops. If you have enjoyed a brew with that sweet piney aroma like freshly trimmed buds it was probably Simcoe! This is possibly due to Simcoe having one of the highest known Myrcene oil levels. Simcoe works best in IPA, PALE ALE, AMBER, and WHEAT beers. Specific aroma descriptors include passion fruit, citrus, pine, berry and earthy characteristics.
These hops are packaged near the farm by a coop owned by the farmers, YCHHOPS® a company formed from the merger of Yakima Chief and Hop Union. This is currently one of the “IT” hops for the US Market. These are professionally packed hops in a nitrogen flushed light and oxygen barrier foil pack and they will remain usable for a long time.
Alpha acid: 11.5 – 15 %

WHERE TO TRY THEM: Simcoe is noticeably present in Dogfish Head’s 60 and 90 Minute IPAs. New Belgium’s Ranger uses it alongside Cascade and Chinook, and Pennsylvania’s Weyerbacher Brewing Company makes a fabulous IPA called Double Simcoe.
