Hot Mix Sparkolloid™ is THE preferred fining agent for red and white wines. Contains diatomites and alginates, both of which are naturally occurring ingredients. Clarifies by removing protein haze and other impurities. Sparkolloid™ has a strong positive charge and attracts negatively charged particles. Works by attracting negatively charged particles in microscopic clumps and falling to the bottom of the carboy with them, forming compact, stable lees that are easy to rack off.
Despite the directions on the package, use 1 teaspoon per gallon or 3 teaspoons per 5 gallons in wine or shine. Add Sparkolloid™ to 1/2 cup boiling hot water and mix intermittantly for 5 minutes or until all the clumps are broken and the mix is creamy. Reheat during the process if necessary. Add to the wine while still warm and stir in gently. Takes 1-2 weeks to clear.
