An amazing dual purpose hop with high AA’s and a unique passion fruit, pine, earth and citrus aromas.  Simcoe are readily identified by the bright yellow lupulin, tiny balls of resin!  Simcoe Hops were released in 2000 by the Yakima Chief Ranch in Washington State. It is a hop closely associated with India Pale Ales but is used almost to obsession in varying ales. Its parents are unknown, they just found it taking over the field with yields up to 2500lbs per acre.  Acid levels vary year to year, expect ~14% Alpha.  LupuLN2® Cryo Hops® represent the most innovative hop product technology available.  You will get less of the “grassy” notes because the oils are concentrated and much of the weedy material has been removed

Simcoe® YCR-14 CV is a modern hop from the USA and is one of the TOP TEN varieties used in the American Craft Beer Movement.  It is grown in the United States and is known for DUAL PURPOSE brewing versatility and unique aroma characteristics.  It continues to rise in popularity and is sometimes hard to find in homebrew shops.  If you have enjoyed a brew with that sweet piney aroma like freshly trimmed buds it was probably Simcoe!  This is possibly due to Simcoe having one of the highest known Myrcene oil levels.  Simcoe works best in IPA, PALE ALE, AMBER, and WHEAT beers.  Specific aroma descriptors include passion fruit, citrus, pine, berry and earthy characteristics.  Levels vary between batches and may not be exactly as pictured but will generally be within the ranges stated below. Possible substitutions are Summit® and Magnum.  Alpha Acid 23.5%.
These hops are packaged near the farm by a coop owned by the farmers, YCHHOPS® a company formed from the merger of Yakima Chief and Hop Union.   This is currently one of the “IT” hops for the US Market.   These are professionally packed hops in a nitrogen flushed light and oxygen barrier foil pack and they will remain usable for a long time.
WHERE TO TRY THEM:   Simcoe is noticeably present in Dogfish Head’s 60 and 90 Minute IPAs. New Belgium’s Ranger uses it alongside Cascade and Chinook, and Pennsylvania’s Weyerbacher Brewing Company makes a fabulous IPA called Double Simcoe.

LupuLN2 is purified lupulin powder containing most of the resin compounds and aromatic oils derived directly from whole hop flowers. It is ideal for use in the whirlpool or fermenter for imparting intense hop flavor and aroma with minimal vegetal flavor and improved yield. Used in combination with Resinate® CO2 extract, LupuLN2 can add hop aroma and flavor to the end of boil or in dry hopping for a twofold approach to achieving superior brewery efficiency without sacrificing flavor. Depending on how much pellet or whole leaf is replaced by either of these products, breweries may see significant improvements in beer yield which contribute to both the bottom line and sustainability mission of YCH and many of our customers.

APPLICATION AND USAGE:  LupuLN2 may be used anywhere pellet hops can be used and are best used for late kettle and dry hop additions. As a starting point for recipe formulation or modification dose rate is estimated at 50% of pellets by weight. It is best used in beers defined by their hop flavor and aroma with hop loads of at least 1 lb/bbl in late kettle or dry hop additions where a larger yield increase will occur from substituting out pellets or whole leaf.
