Simcoe® YCR-14 CV is a powerhouse of the American Craft Beer Movement and consistently ranks as one of the top ten hop varieties used by brewers today. Grown in the USA, this high-demand modern hop is celebrated for its dual-purpose versatility, offering both high bittering potential and a complex aromatic profile. If you’ve ever enjoyed a craft beer with a signature sweet, piney aroma reminiscent of freshly trimmed buds, you’ve likely experienced the effects of Simcoe’s exceptionally high Myrcene oil levels.  While its popularity can sometimes make it hard to find, it remains a staple for brewing world-class IPAs, Pale Ales, Ambers, and Wheat beers.   Expect pine, grapefruit, berry, apricot, and tropical fruit with herbal, earth, and dank notes.

SIMCOE® YCR 14 CV:  Simcoe Hops are a dual purpose hop with high bittering potential. Simcoe are readily identified by the bright yellow lupulin, tiny balls of resin!  Simcoe Hops were released in 2000 by the Yakima Chief Ranch in Washington State. It is a hop closely associated with India Pale Ales but is used almost to obsession in varying ales. Its parents are unknown, they just found it taking over the field with yields up to 2500lbs per acre.  Acid levels vary year to year, expect 12-15% Alpha.  Levels vary between batches and may not be exactly as pictured but will generally be within the ranges stated. Possible substitutions are Summit® and Magnum.
WHERE TO TRY THEM:   Simcoe is noticeably present in Dogfish Head’s 60 and 90 Minute IPAs. New Belgium’s Ranger uses it alongside Cascade and Chinook, and Pennsylvania’s Weyerbacher Brewing Company makes a fabulous IPA called Double Simcoe.
These hops are packaged near the farm by a coop owned by the farmers, YCHHOPS® a company formed from the merger of Yakima Chief and Hop Union.   This is currently one of the “IT” hops for the US Market.   These are professionally packed hops in a nitrogen flushed light and oxygen barrier foil pack and they will remain usable for a long time.  I have several different varieties listed – check my other items.
