Dextrin malt is a type of malted barley used as a “Body Builder” in both all-grain and extract brewing to increase body fullness, gravity, and to enhance foam retention. Dextrins are long-chain sugars that are unfermentable by brewer’s yeast. These leftover sugars increase the body and mouthfeel of a beer. Most maltsters produce some form of proprietary dextrine malt. When it comes to craft beer we know that flavor is huge – Go with Dextrine today! Some say brewing beer is an art; others say it’s a science. We say it’s a little bit of both.
