Another Homebrew Store Closing – F.H. Steinbart – Portland Oregon

F.H. Steinbart Co. (Portland, OR): After 108 years in business, America’s oldest homebrew shop officially closed on March 30, 2026. Despite a search for a buyer to carry the legacy forward, owner James Ameeti cited declining foot traffic and broader market shifts as insurmountable pressures.  Steinbart was once the premium mail order homebrew store with all the good bits of kit.  Ameeti said “I’m incredibly grateful for the role Steinbart has played in Portland and in the homebrewing community nationwide. Being part of its final chapter has been both an honor and a difficult responsibility.”

The company kicked off its final clearance sale Monday, March 30, with 75% off storewide and 50% off liquid yeast and bags of base malt. A farewell party is scheduled for Saturday, April 4.
