RED BASE TEST JAR 12″ BEAKER PLASTIC TRIAL JAR For use with hydrometer to test fermenting beer or wine

$5.00

Here’s a handy and inexpensive BPA free piece of homebrew equipment you ought to have.  This red base plastic ‘TEST JAR’ is used to hold a sample pulled from your homebrew so that a hydrometer can be floated in it to measure the alcohol or possibility of alcohol.  It will take just over than 7 oz to fill it to the brim but you will not want to do that – leave room for the displacement of your instrument.  It is a lot easier to see those tiny numbers with one of these trial jars.  The quality is excellent for plastic and they are imported from Canada. Besides the removable base which makes cleaning and sanitizing simple, the best features are the removable base, pouring spout, and embossed measurements in ounces.

Description

This jar looks a lot better sitting on your counter than the ones with the green plastic base.  The removable red plastic base makes it easy to clean and sanitize after taking a reading.  This plastic is fine for beer wort, wine cuvee, and even undistilled whiskey mash since distillers ‘still’ need a triple scale hydrometer and a test jar to figure what percentage alcohol the yeast was able to produce.  They use the procedure shown below just like for wine and beer.
If measuring homebrew with greater than 25% (50 proof) alcohol you should really get a glass jar since ethanol is corrosive.  But then they put moonshine in plastic milk jugs on TV don’t they?  These cost much less than glass and are harder to break.  For the purist we do also stock the glass trial jars, check our other homebrew items.
