Every effort has been made to ensure that this is a safe, durable assembly. The thread seal tape used is Oatey and non-hazardous per 29CFR 1910.1200. The valve is cast from high quality corrosion resistant 316 Stainless Steel and the other components are a quality 304 stainless perfect for non saline brew kettle, mash tun, or sparge water operations.
This assembly has 1/2″ Female NPT x 1/2″ Female NPT fittings and will not leak even after many years of frequent usage if you replace the o-ring occasionally. The unit is set up so that it can be easily removed from your kettle for storage, so remember to re-tape the nipple where the nut goes each time it is reassembled. The valve seals are PTFE (Teflon) and the O-Ring is silicone, both of which offer excellent corrosion resistance. Stainless Steel, PTFE and Teflon work very well together in applications including alcohol, WOG (Water, Oil, Gas), biodiesel, and fuels as well as light alkalis and acids.
We had to order from several manufacturers before we found really nice components for this kit. We ended up paying more than we had to for components but think you will find the fit and finish are of much better quality than the stuff that is usually available. First there is the appearance – these units are nice and shiny, not dull grey. More importantly, the 1/2″ female NPT threads are cleanly cut so your 1/2″ attachments will fit easily and seal tightly. When turning the handle, action is tight but not difficult. All the source manufacturers claimed excellent quality control but in these ones we are not finding the usual casting defects encountered in the first few brands we tried. This valve is cleanly cast and nicely machined from high quality corrosion resistant 316 stainless steel, perfect for brew kettle, mash tun, or sparge water operations.
