AU Pride of Ringwood Pellet Hops 1 oz – Fosters Lager

$4.00

Pride of Ringwood is a daughter of once popular Pride of Kent and has now overtaken its mother in the market. Commercially grown since the 1960s, this varietal is one of Australia’s most well known and widely used. While Pride of Ringwood does have a distinctively bold, citrus aroma, it is primarily used for its clean bittering characteristics in regional brews like Australian Lagers, Pale Ales, and Fruit Lambic. This is due to the mid-alpha acid range from about 8.5% to 10.6% that works across many styles.  I believe this is our most expensive hop.  Most likely worth it!

Description

  • Alpha acid content: Average
  • Flavor/Aroma: Herbal, Piney
  • Origin: Australian
  • Format: T90 Pellet
  • Use: Bittering
  • Styles:  Aussie Sparkling Ale, Lagers, Fruit Lambic, Pale Ales, IPAs, Strong Ales, Amber Ales, and Golden Ales.

You can find this in many single hopped beers, including:  Fosters Lager, Cascade Pale Ale, and Nail Ale. Pride of Ringwood was developed by Albert Nash as part of the hop breeding program at the Ringwood Hop Research Station, Ringwood, Victoria. Pride of Ringwood’s pedigree is a female Pride of Kent hop and one of the unnamed wild Tasmanians. POR quickly became the most popular hop in Australia and at one time accounted for 90% of the hop acreage in Australia, but due to uptake of the new super-alpha hops it now accounts for only 10% of acreage.
